General Description

This short grain rice is the essential ingredient for any paella. Each bag should make about 10 generous portions of paella. The rice comes in a traditional cloth bag, which a bit like a bean bag, you can't stop holding!!

Each bag is individually numbered with  D.O. label  (Denominación de Origen or Denominacio D'origen as it written in Valenciano!!) confirming both its quality and provenance.

This typical paella rice of the Bahía-Senia varieties is grown in the heart of the famous Albufera Natural Park, South-West of the city of Valencia. This amazing natural wetland is separated from the sea only by a small strip of land as has been an area of rice production since the time of the Moors. In fact it was here that paella as a dish was first eaten, taking advantage of the abundance of natural wildlife living in the park.

All our rice comes from ARROCERÍAS ANTONIO TOMÁS  a company founded 40 years ago.  Their Santo Tomas brand is recognised today as one of the premium brands in the market. Being located within the park itself they have a privileged relationship with the farmers. This along with continual monitoring and selection ensures the best quality rice is always able to be sourced

How much rice do I use per person ?

For a "main course" portion use about 100g of dry rice per person. If it is more of a "tapas" size you need - eg it is part of a larger selection of dishes you are serving, use between 80g-85g of rice per person.

This rice uses about a 1 to 2.3 ratio of rice to stock. So in practice, for every 100g of rice you would use 230ml of stock. For bigger pans or when the paella is particularly thin, you may need to increase this to 1 to 2.5 ratio

I haven’t actually used this rice yet, I normally buy the Bomba rice but decided on a change. As always the service has been great.

This rice is great and better than previous supermarket purchases, adding a much-missed taste of Spain to a tried and tested recipe. Delivery was speedy and we will certainly order again soon.
